- mix marg/shortening until creamed
- add vanilla
- add alternatively,cold cream & icing sugar
- mix till well blended or whip
- separate into smaller bowls then add different colour food colouring(using too much will change icing consistency)
- For thinner icing use less icing sugar, thicker use more
If frosting becomes too thin, beat in a small amount. A cooled cooked custard is beaten into whipped butter. In a standing mixer fitted with a whisk, mix together sugar and butter. Cream butter and then add vanilla and optional salt. (To cut the sweetness I usually sprinkle some salt in the vanilla, so it will dissolve.). Add sugar a cup at a time beating on medium speed.
