Dalgona candy is a sponge toffee-like sugar candy we grew up having from street vendors everywhere, especially around the schools. Dalgona coffee is like a cappucino turned on its head, with the frothy coffee on top and the milk underneath. For once, the internet was right! Dalgona (λ‹¬κ³ λ‚˜) or ppopgi (뽑기) is a Korean candy made with melted sugar and baking soda.

To get started with this particular recipe, we have to first prepare a few ingredients. You can have dalgona using 4 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.

The ingredients needed to make Dalgona:
  1. Prepare 2 Tbsp instant coffee powder
  2. Take 2 Tbsp white granulated sugar
  3. Prepare 2 Tbsp water
  4. Make ready 1/2 cup milk

If you don't have a ladle, you could use a heavy-bottomed, metal measuring. With a small charcoal burner and single griddle, the ppopgi ajusshi was a street vendor who sold ppopgi candy (now known as dalgona candy). He would caramelize sugar in a soup ladle, pour it onto a griddle, flatten it and stamp a fun shape in the candy while it was hot. Dalgona was a popular sugar candy for young children in those days, and the candy came with a game.

Instructions to make Dalgona:
  1. In a large mixing bowl, add coffee and sugar. - Add 1 tsp water and mix with a whisk

  2. Tilt at an angle and keep whisking. Add just 2-3 drops water at a time only if needed.
  3. Coffee will keep changing color to a lighter shade and will be foamy too.
  4. It will take 10 min for the whole process
  5. Now Fill 2/3rd of a cup with cold milk and add some ice. - Spoon the coffee foam and add it to the top of the cup.
  6. Mix it with a spoon to enjoy it as a latte or just as it is as you get a little bit of milk and foam in one sip. ENJOY!!!
