  3. Prepare 2 green chillies finely chopped

  8. Prepare 1/2 cup toor dal
  9. Make ready 2 red ripe tomatoes
  10. Get 2 tbsp sambhar powder
  11. Make ready 2 tbsp grated coconut
  12. Prepare 3-4 shallots Or 1 medium onion
  13. Prepare to taste Salt
  14. Take 1 tsp aamchur powder or 1/2 lemon (juice)
  15. Take For tempering on sambhar:
  16. Get 1 tbsp oil
  17. Make ready 1 tsp urad dal
  18. Get 1 tsp mustard seeds
  19. Get leaves Few curry
  20. Make ready 2 dry red chillies
  21. Take For coconut chutney;
  22. Take 1 cup coconut pieces
  23. Make ready 1/4 cup roasted gram
  24. Get 1 green chilli
  25. Take 1 inch ginger
  26. Make ready as required few curry leaves
  27. Get as per taste Salt
  28. Prepare as required Cold Milk

Sambar Sambar Vadai is one of the most popular evening snack in any restaurants. Sambar Vadai and Rasa Vadai is even served as an appetizer. Crispy but fluffy deep fried Medhu Vada are soaked in Sambar and garnished with ghee, chopped onions and coriander leaves. Sambar vadai is urad dal vadai, soaked in mild and flavourful sambar.

Steps to make Sambhar Vada:
  1. Wash whole white urad in water for 4-5 times. Soak in clean water overnight or for 6 hours.
  2. Discard soaked water. Grind soaked urad in wet grinder with little water(if required) to make smooth batter.
  3. Transfer it in mixing bowl. Beat this grinded urad batter with hand for 5 minutes to make fluffy mixture. Add salt, finely chopped green chillies and cummin seeds in it.
  4. Heat oil for frying. Take big tea strainer. On back side apply water. Take ball size prepared urad mixture. Place on this tea strainer. Give round shape with wet finger. Make hole in center. Drop in hot oil. Similarly prepare more. (3-4 at a time). Deep fry in hot oil on medium flame till crispy golden brown. Similarly prepare all vadas
  5. For making sambhar.. wash toor dal and pressure cook with 1 glass of water for 4 whistles. Cool and whisk it. Keep aside.
  6. Make tomato puree and keep aside. Grind coconut and sambhar powder to make paste. Keep aside. Chopped shallots finely.(You can add veggies like drumsticks, pumpkin)
  7. In cooking pan add tomato puree,whisked toor dal, coconut sambhar powder paste. Add salt, aamchur powder and mix well. Add1 glass of water.Boil/ simmer for 5 minutes.
  8. In small tadka pan add heat oil. Add urad dal saute it till pinkish. Add mustard seeds as splutter add dry red chillies and curry leaves. Off the flame. Pour this tempering on boiling sambhar. Mix well. Off the flame. Serve hot.
  9. To make coconut chutney..add green chillies ginger pieces,roasted gram, chopped coconut pieces, salt in mixer jar. Churn/ blend it for 1 minute. Add cold milk and again churn to make chutney.
  10. At the time of serving.. place hot urad vadas in serving plate. Pour 2-3 ladle ful of prepared hot sambhar. Serve/ relish delicious South Indian savoury hot Sambhar Vada with coconut chutney.

Crispy but fluffy deep fried Medhu Vada are soaked in Sambar and garnished with ghee, chopped onions and coriander leaves. Sambar vadai is urad dal vadai, soaked in mild and flavourful sambar. After their chutneys, I like their sambar vada. I have it often but the best sambar vada here in Singapore is from Nalan restaurant near Funan IT mall. Their sambar is the best and love their sambar vada a lot.
