Cheese flan, or cheese pie as is it often known, is a classic school dinner dish made with just a handful of ingredients (perfect for feeding a horde of hungry kids on a budget!). It was often served with tinned tomatoes or a tomato sauce. Cheese flan is similar to a quiche but less fiddly to make and with fewer ingredients. Make it at home with ready-made shortcrust pastry, eggs and cheese.

To get started with this recipe, we must prepare a few components. You can have cheese flan using 9 ingredients and 19 steps. Here is how you cook that.

Do not confuse a classic cheese and onion flan with a quiche. While this baked egg recipe may resemble the traditional French dish, the flan is made differently and tastes a little different. It is the traditional British version of the ubiquitous quiche and, for many Brits, is the stuff of memories. Those memories being school lunches, summer meals, afternoon tea, and dinners with cheese and.

  7. Completely coat the bottom of the dish & set aside
  8. Throw the cream cheese & eggs into a blender & blend until smooth
  9. Pour half of this mixture into a large bowl
  10. In the blender with the remaining amount of mixture, add both the condensed & evaporated milk. Blend until smooth
  11. Combine this mixture with the other half of the cheese & egg mixture. Whisk together thoroughly
  12. Pour into the caramel coated baking dish
  13. Put the 11×7×2 dish into a 9×13×2 dish
  14. Pour the 4 cups of water, which should now be boiling, into the 9×13×2 dish until it halfway reaches the 11×7×2 dish
  15. It's okay if you don't use all the boiling water as long as it halfway reaches the 11×7×2
  16. Cover the entire thing with foil, including the 9×13×2 dish
  17. Place in the over for 40-45 minutes
  18. You can test for readiness by inserting a knife through the center of the flan. If it comes out clean, it is ready
  19. Let it cool for an hour, then place it in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours

It is the traditional British version of the ubiquitous quiche and, for many Brits, is the stuff of memories. Those memories being school lunches, summer meals, afternoon tea, and dinners with cheese and. Roll out the pastry on a little flour, and place in the flan ring/tin.
